Anatomy
Foreskin / Prepuce
The movable fold of tissue that covers and protects the glans. See About the Foreskin.
Glans
The head of the penis. In intact men, the foreskin normally protects it from constant friction.
Frenulum
The elastic tissue on the underside of the glans and foreskin. Many men experience it as a highly sensitive area.
Ridged Band
A specialized ring of tissue near the foreskin opening often discussed in anatomy and sensitivity research.
Hygiene & Care
Retraction
Pulling the foreskin back to expose the glans. It should be gentle and never forced. See Care Basics.
Smegma
A natural mix of skin cells, oils, and moisture. It is normal and becomes an issue only when hygiene is neglected.
Paraphimosis
An urgent problem where a retracted foreskin gets stuck behind the glans and cannot be returned forward.
Medical Terms
Phimosis
Tightness that prevents comfortable retraction. In children it is often normal; in adults it may need conservative treatment.
Balanitis
Inflammation of the glans, sometimes with redness, irritation, itching, or discharge.
BXO / Lichen Sclerosus
A chronic inflammatory condition that can scar the foreskin and may require specialist care.
Keratinization
Thickening or drying of surface tissue from exposure and friction. It is often discussed when comparing intact and circumcised anatomy.
